Crit HappensFallout 76Full-health stealth Gunslinger: The Sneaky Pistolerabuild by @cbuckPublished · Guide 7 notes
I made this full-health human stealth/VATS pistol build for a level-330 bow fan. Charge the suppressed Gauss for deliberate opening shots; switch to the suppressed cryo-Crusader for quick follow-ups. Aim at weak spots, spend criticals, and reposition. Includes matching Secret Service armor, six mutations and everyday Herbivore food buffs. Join a team with a mutated teammate. Legendary perks start at rank 1; four-star gear is optional.

SPECIAL: S3 P7 E7 C4 I8 A15 L12, plus Legendary Luck 1 for the thirteenth Luck card point. The numbers printed on cards are equip costs, not always ranks: Awareness, LifeGiver, Tenderizer, Cryologist, Gunslinger Expert and Grim Reaper’s Sprint each have one rank costing 2 points; Gunslinger Master has one rank costing 3.
Gauss/Crusader hybrid: Demolition Expert 3 supports the Gauss explosion; Cryologist supports the cryo Crusader. Gunsmith was removed to fit both. For Crusader-only play, swap Demolition Expert 3 to Gunsmith 3. For repeated fast shooting, replace Gunslinger Master (3 points) with Action Boy/Girl 3. Keep the passive Onslaught setup for the deliberate Gauss rhythm.
Crouch, select an actual weak spot in VATS, charge the Gauss fully and fire; use the Crusader when you need immediate follow-ups. Reposition between targets. Five Perception unlocks limb targeting. Critical Savvy and Better Criticals are essential, but this accessible starting setup does not promise a critical every other shot.
Legendary perks
All six legendary slots are unlocked by level 300. This level-330 starter uses rank 1 in every slot and needs no upgrade coins: Legendary Luck, Follow Through, Funky Duds, What Rads?, Master Infiltrator and Taking One for the Team. Existing perk swaps may cost coins.
Upgrade Follow Through first for tougher stealth targets, then choose survivability or more SPECIAL according to available coins. Follow Through helps subsequent hits, not the initial shot. Taking One for the Team is a fallback when enemies attack you while teamed. Funky Duds needs the five matching Secret Service pieces. Master Infiltrator is convenience; Sizzling Style is the combat alternative. Four-star equipment is optional.
Effects (6)
Use Eagle Eyes, Bird Bones, Marsupial, Speed Demon, Herd Mentality and Herbivore. Starched Genes protects mutations; Class Freak reduces their drawbacks. Join a team and have at least one mutated teammate for Strange in Numbers. Avoid taking Grounded for this mixed elemental setup, and avoid Twisted Muscles because of its gun-accuracy penalty. Speed Demon supplies movement speed without spending more Agility on Gun Runner.
Consumables (5)
Everyday food: Company Tea for AP recovery, Blight Soup for critical damage, Tato Salad for max health, Infused Soot Flower Tea for max AP, and Brain Fungus Soup for Intelligence (also useful for Cryologist). These are selected in the consumable cards. Herbivore improves compatible food; Strange in Numbers changes benefits when a mutated teammate is present. Keep hunger and thirst full for the selected armor effects.
Optional CAMP preparation: sleep for Well Rested, play an instrument for Well Tuned, and use available Luck, Perception and Agility buff machines. These are optional preparation, not assumed prerequisites. Carry purified water and Stimpaks; use coffee only when you want a short burst of extra AP recovery. Avoid piling on overlapping food or multiple chems without checking which effect replaces which.
Weapons
GAUSS: level 50, Hardened Receiver, Suppressed Barrel, Standard Magazine, Standard Glow Sights. Furious / Vital / VATS Optimized. Fully charge each shot. Gunslinger Master builds Onslaught while you pause; Furious provides damage per stack and Gunslinger Expert adds weak-spot damage. Anti-Armor is a practical first-star alternative.
CRUSADER: level 50, Cryo Receiver, Standard Long Barrel, Suppressor, Reflex Sight (Circle), Standard Magazine. Anti-Armor / Vital / VATS Optimized. Uses 10mm ammunition. Fast, quiet follow-ups without charging; Cryologist boosts the cryo component. The long barrel costs more AP in exchange for range. Standard magazine avoids the extended magazine’s reload penalty.
Vital favors critical damage; VATS Enhanced is the second-star alternative if opening shots miss too often. Lucky Hit can replace VATS Optimized if building toward a faster critical cycle. Four-star Pin-Pointer’s is an optional future upgrade. No Explosive star is required on the Crusader; Demolition Expert remains for the Gauss. Don’t expect the Crusader to have the same Onslaught stack capacity as the Furious Gauss.
OPTIONAL HEAVY: level-50 Plasma Caster, Sniper Barrel, Calibrated Capacitor, Standard Sight. Furious / VATS Enhanced / VATS Optimized. No perk, SPECIAL, legendary-perk, armor or mutation changes are needed. It uses normal plasma cartridges; Batteries Included reduces their weight. Gunslinger weak-spot bonuses, Gunslinger Expert/Master, Better Criticals, Critical Savvy, Awareness, Tenderizer and the existing AP buffs support its deliberate VATS shots. Furious adds damage per Onslaught stack, suiting pauses between shots.
Use the caster against tougher enemies or when stealth has already broken. It cannot be suppressed. Sniper Barrel increases range and single-shot damage but halves magazine capacity and fire rate and raises AP cost; Calibrated adds critical damage at further AP cost. Standard Barrel is the faster, cheaper-to-fire alternative. VATS Enhanced helps regular shots connect; swap it to Vital only if accuracy is already dependable. Anti-Armor is an alternative first star. This is a compatible backup, not a dedicated heavy-gunner loadout: Cryologist and Demolition Expert do not boost this configuration, and small-gun-specific perks do not carry over. No power armor is required.

Armor Sets
Five matching level-50 Secret Service pieces activate Funky Duds. Buttressed on all pieces; Dense chest for explosion protection and Ultra-Light limbs for AP. A jetpack can replace Dense if mobility matters more.
Target armor: Overeater’s on all five; Powered on chest and arms; +2 Luck on each leg; Secret Agent’s on the chest and Thru-hiker’s on the four limbs. These are long-term target rolls, not mandatory before trying the build. The current builder describes Overeater’s as a max-health bonus from filled hunger/thirst meters; do not use older guides’ damage-reduction numbers.
A shielded Vault 76 Jumpsuit and level-50 high-capacity backpack complete the set. Existing bow armor is fine while collecting this gear. Food/chem weight reduction helps keep Packin’ Light active. Four-star Limit-Breaking is an optional later critical-cycle project; no four-star armor is assumed here.
Power Armor Sets
OPTIONAL HELLCAT: a full level-50 set for tougher fights and Plasma Caster use. Obtain the suit through the Brotherhood of Steel’s Steel Reign questline (The Catalyst). The suit is a quest reward; modification plans such as Calibrated Shocks require a separate gold-bullion investment. Buy those gradually.
Helmet: VATS Matrix Overlay. Torso: Core Assembly for AP recovery. Legs: Calibrated Shocks on both for +100 carry weight. Arm modification slots are intentionally left empty: their melee bonuses are unnecessary for this ranged build. No jetpack or four-star gear is required.
Target rolls on the five legendary-capable pieces: Overeater’s on all five; Powered on chest and arms; +2 Luck on both legs; Arms Keeper’s on the chest and Thru-hiker’s on the four limbs. This preserves food/chem weight reduction and adds some weapon-weight relief. These are upgrade targets, not requirements to start using Hellcat.
Keep the existing SPECIAL and perk cards. Use Secret Service and suppressed pistols for normal stealth play; enter Hellcat when you want protection for a loud fight. The builder remains set to regular armor by default; change the character-state switch to power armor when comparing its stats. Your normal armor, underarmor and backpack bonuses stop contributing inside power armor, and Sneak, Escape Artist and Evasive no longer work. VATS also uses fusion-core charge, so carry spare cores. Company Tea and the existing critical-hit perks still help.
Set it here to see what they really contribute.
