First I recommend focusing down the combat tree to get Whirl as fast as possible as it is very good against groups of enemies and can stun lock enemies like Grave/Water Hags and Foglets. Then focus on getting both Whirl and Razor Focus maxed out. When you get to Velen start focusing on maxing out delusion for the many Dialogue checks in Velen. After maxing out Delusion start down the alchemy tree to max out Acquired Tolerance and then max out Protective Coating. Now you have a few choices you can either increase your Max Vitality or Max Toxicity in the general tree or go back to the combat tree and get Rend and Resolve. Also make sure to get all available Skill points from places of power in White Orchard, Velen, Novigrad and Skellige.

Mutations
Gear
For Gearing I recommend starting with exploring White Orchard and getting a crafted set of Hunters Gear and Upgrading the starting Chest piece and crafting the Viper swords found in White Orchard. Once you reach level 4 you can buy the Temerian set from the vender in white Orchard next to the bridge. When you reach level 7 you will want to equip all 6 pieces of the Armour of a Thousand Flowers set which you can acquire from the chest in Yennefers room in Vizima. When you reach level 10 you will want to buy the Nilfgaardian Armour from the Quartermaster at Crows Perch. At level 11 craft yourself a Pair of Griffin school Swords to replace your Flower swords. At level 16 you will want to buy yourself the Undvik Armour set from the Armourer in the Kaer Trolde Citadel. At level 17 craft yourself a pair of Cat school Swords to replace your Griffin swords. Finally at level 20 craft yourself a full set of Bear school Gear which the blueprints for can be acquired in Skellige. Then take it to the Runewright in north east Novigrad and upgrade it with extra slots in each of the armour pieces and then put Levity on the chest piece and Severance on both of the swords.
Increases the range of Whirl by 1.1 yards and Rend by 1.9 yards.
Increases the range of Whirl by 1.1 yards and Rend by 1.9 yards.
All equipped armor items are treated as Light Armor.
Alchemy
For Potions and Decoctions at the start of the game just use Swallow, Thunderbolt and Tawny Owl. When you can craft Maribor Forest for combat. once at about level 10 or 11 you can craft both the Troll and Ekimmara Decoctions, To get the mutagen for the Ekimmara Decoction you can find a Ekimmara in the cave where you get the basic Griffin Armour, make a save before you fight it and reload if it doesn't drop one. As for the Troll decoction go to the Crossroads sign post west of the Nilfgaardian camp in southern Velen and clear out the camp under the bridge west of it. Then teleport to White Orchard and back again and make a save, a Rabid Cave Troll should have spawned kill it and if it doesn't drop the mutagen reload and repeat. When you have both Decoctions you will want to use both at all times and when starting combat pop a Maribor Forest. This will make fights easier by having constant regen and regen on hitting and enemy.
Accelerates the generation of Adrenaline Points. Extended duration. Grants 1 Adrenaline Point upon consumption.
Regenerates Vitality during and outside of combat.
Damage dealt to foes regenerates Vitality.
