The cornerstone of close quarters combat, or CQC, the shotgun has proven a simple, deadly weapon for hundreds of years.
Shotgun Certification is a tier 1 Combat skill in Starfield with 4 ranks. It is available from the start. Ranks 2 through 4 each need a challenge completed before they can be bought.
It is a starting skill of the Gangster background. It affects 6 weapons.

Shotguns do 10% more damage.
Rank 2
Shotgun Certification
Shotguns do 20% more damage.
Rank 3
Shotgun Certification
Shotguns do 30% more damage.
Rank 4
Shotgun Certification
Shotgun kills grant a small chance to stun additional targets with shotguns for a limited time.
Challenges
Rank 1: Kill 20 enemies with a shotgun.
Rank 2: Kill 50 enemies with a shotgun.
Rank 3: Kill 100 enemies with a shotgun.
